During house raids in Istanbul and Dersim (tr. Tunceli), several people were taken into custody. The operations took place in the early morning hours. In Istanbul, Metin Keleş, Isa Yalçın, and Sinan Yalçın from the Federation of Socialist Councils (SMF) were detained.
According to the authorities, they are accused of financially supporting an illegal organization. According to reports by pro-government media, there are alleged links to the communist parties MKP and TKP/ML.
In Dersim, Yaprak Kurban, a representative of the local branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD), was detained. A 24-hour lawyer ban and a confidentiality order have been imposed for the proceedings.
The SMF strongly condemned the actions of the authorities. In a statement, the organization criticized the measures as part of an ongoing policy of repression: “The ruthless attacks of the political power on social forces continue.” The detainees are currently being held at a gendarmerie station in the Maslak district of Istanbul. The SMF demanded their immediate release and stated: “No attack will stop our struggle for equality, freedom, and justice.”
