Women from Van set off for Gemlik march

Ahead of the planned march to the Turkish port city of Gemlik, women from Van set off toward Bursa on Friday. The action is organized by the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) and is aimed at demanding freedom for the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The participants first set out for the province of Amed (Diyarbakır), where the Kurdistan leg of the march is expected to begin. Prior to that, the women gathered in front of the building of the provincial branch of the DEM Party and then marched together to Musa Anter Park.

Accompanied by slogans such as “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) and “No life without leader,” they then continued their journey by bus. The march is held under the motto “Time of women, time of freedom and time to meet a free leader” and is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Gemlik. From there, there is a connection to the prison island of Imrali, where Öcalan has been held in isolation for years.
