Gülistan Doku case: Former governor and former chief hospital physician taken into custody

New developments have occurred in the investigation into the disappearance of Munzur University student Gülistan Doku, who went missing on January 5, 2020, in Dersim. Former governor Tuncay Sonel and the former chief physician of the hospital, Çağdaş Özdemir, were taken into custody. It was revealed that hospital data related to Gülistan Doku at Tunceli State Hospital had been deleted.

The governor of Tunceli at the time, Tuncay Sonel, was detained in Elazığ. There has not yet been an official statement about where Sonel was taken.

In addition, the former chief physician of Tunceli State Hospital, Çağdaş Özdemir, was also detained on the allegation that he deleted data related to Gülistan Doku. It was learned that Özdemir is being processed on charges of “tampering with evidence.”

In the investigation, a review was initiated after data emerged showing that Gülistan Doku had entered the hospital before her disappearance, and it was determined that the system records from the same day had been deleted. During the examination, a record was found showing that Doku entered the hospital at 09:09 on December 31, but it was determined that all system logs for that day had been deleted.

In the report submitted to the prosecutor’s office by the IT company that examined the hospital’s database, it was stated that the log records in question had been “deliberately deleted through unauthorized technical intervention.”

The hospital administration denied the allegations, claiming that Gülistan Doku did not apply to the hospital on the specified date.

In a statement made by the Ministry of Health, it was reported that an investigation had been launched into the incident and that an inspector had been appointed.
