A platform formed by the villages of Aşgirek, Gurik, Dağbek, and surrounding areas submitted nearly 2,000 collected signatures to the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization in Dersim to protest against a mining project planned for Hel Mountain in the Pîlemûriye (Pülümür).
Before delivering the signatures, local residents held a press statement in front of the institution, expressing their opposition to the mining project.
Speaking on behalf of the platform, Kasım Fırat stated that the project would cause serious destruction to nature and living spaces, adding that approximately 20,000 additional decares of land in the same area have also been licensed for mining activities.
Fırat argued that the economic justifications for the project are insufficient and emphasized that livestock breeding, beekeeping, and agricultural production in the region would suffer significant damage.
Reminding that Hel Mountain is a pasture area, Fırat noted that a similar mining project had previously been canceled for this reason.
The platform also drew attention to the rich vegetation and wildlife of the Munzur Basin, stating that many endemic species and protected animals live in the region.
The statement emphasized that the mining project would negatively affect both the ecosystem and the regional economy and reiterated their opposition to the project.
After the press statement, the collected signatures were submitted to the authorities.
