Speaking under heavy rain at the Newroz celebration in Amed (tr: Diyarbakır), Kurdish politician Leyla Zana said the following:
“Happy Newroz. Many messages have been delivered from here. You have also shown a strong stance for Rojava. With their stance, the Kurdish people have delivered their message to politicians: We are one, we are Kurds, and we have rights like other peoples. You have fulfilled your duty. Kurdish politics must also fulfill its responsibility. I also want to say a word to the government: for one and a half years, you have not met the demands of this people. The people want to see and hear the leader (Abdullah Öcalan) in Amed, because they want to build the future together. You have made your voice heard. These demands must be respected. I wish a happy Newroz to all political prisoners in the person of Leader Öcalan.”
