The Kurdistan Political Forces Alliance of Rojhilat released a written statement regarding Newroz 2026. The statement stressed that for the Kurdish people, Newroz represents not only the renewal of nature but also a symbol of resistance, uprising, and struggle. It noted that for years in Rojhilat Kurdistan, Newroz has become a ground for struggle against the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating: “Every year, the people of Kurdistan have succeeded in breaking the regime’s oppression with their will for freedom.”
Highlighting the role of civil society in organizing Newroz, the statement said that the achievements gained are “the result of the long-term struggle of the Kurdish people and political forces who have not bowed to pressure, violence, and conspiracies.”
“Attacks are a sign of weakness”
The statement also addressed the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region: “Before this war, thousands of freedom activists were killed in the streets of Kurdistan and other cities of Iran, and thousands were arrested and imprisoned. In addition, it turned all political, national, and social rights of Kurds, especially Kurdish women, into a nightmare in their own country. Now, due to its racist policies and its support for state terrorism, it has launched a major war to prevent stability and peace in the region and the world. It targets the headquarters and bases of political parties in Rojhilat Kurdistan every day with missiles and drones. It does this in the hope of obstructing the struggle and efforts for freedom. Of course, these latest attacks by a regime on its deathbed are not a show of strength.”
“This year’s Newroz is the herald of victory”
The statement continued by describing Newroz 2026 as a historic turning point: “This year’s Newroz is the harbinger of a great victory for the people of Kurdistan. On the one hand, the forces engaged in struggle have united their strength and energy within the framework of a political alliance. On the other hand, segments of Kurdistan society—especially women—have taken part in efforts and struggles to achieve their rights.
As we celebrate Newroz, we assure the people of Kurdistan that neither missiles, nor terror, nor political and security pressure will slow our steps. Together, in unity and with the Rojhilat Political Forces Alliance, we will move toward a new phase of work and struggle that will determine our future, and toward a closer and more peaceful victory.
We celebrate the Newroz holiday and the new year of the Kurdish people and commemorate our martyrs. In particular, we remember those who were martyred in the recent uprising in Kirmashan, Ilam, and other southern regions of Kurdistan. We call on all segments of the people of Kurdistan to continue their work and struggle against the missile attacks of the Islamic Republic regime and to protect the achievements of years of struggle during this sensitive period.
On this Newroz, we once again reaffirm the message of work and struggle. By visiting the families of the martyrs, we honor the brave sons and daughters of the country, and with a spirit of unity and solidarity, we will step toward victory.”
