Baghdad condemns attacks on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

The political leadership of Iraq has strongly condemned attacks by Iran and its proxy forces on Iraqi cities and the Kurdistan Region. Such attacks constitute a violation of national sovereignty and are “unacceptable,” the participants of a high-level meeting in Baghdad stated.

The meeting was attended by President Abdullatif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi, and the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faik Zaidan. The discussions focused on the US-Israeli attack on Iran, the counterattacks in the region, and their impact on Iraq.

In a joint statement, the participants stressed that Iraq must not be drawn into external conflicts. At the same time, they reaffirmed that Iraqi territory must not be used as a starting point for attacks against neighboring countries.

The Iraqi officials also called for all military operations in the region to end and for conflicts to be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations. They called for the international community to take steps to prevent a further escalation of tensions.

In addition, the participants reaffirmed the state’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions in Iraq and warned against the spread of misinformation on social media, announcing legal measures against such activities.
