Iran continues its attacks against South Kurdistan

Iran carried out new attacks on several targets in South Kurdistan (North Iraq) overnight. According to local sources, among the sites targeted were a camp of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan in the province of Sulaymaniyah as well as the Harir air base near Hewlêr (Erbil). The attacks took place against the backdrop of the war waged by Israel and the United States against Iran. Since the beginning of the military confrontation at the end of February, the conflict has increasingly spread to neighboring regions.

Attack on Komala Camp

During the attack on the Komala camp in Sûrdaş, an accommodation building caught fire. The party has not reported any injuries or fatalities. The border village of Zirguêz was also attacked overnight. According to residents, several explosions were heard after attacks with drones and rockets.

Drone attack on communication infrastructure

Another attack targeted Mount Zimnako, where communication facilities belonging to several telecommunications companies are located. According to the district governor of Derbendîxan, Amanc Muhammed Kasas, several transmission towers were damaged in a drone attack. Facilities belonging to the companies Asiacell and Korek Telecom, which are used for civilian communication networks, were affected.

Kasas stated that the drones deliberately targeted technical infrastructure and communication equipment on the mountain, causing material damage. A similar attack on transmission towers on Mount Korek in Hewlêr had been reported on Tuesday. At that time, however, no damage occurred.

Explosions near Harir Airport

The Harir military airport near Hewlêr, where US troops are stationed, was also attacked overnight. A strong explosion was heard in the surrounding area in the morning as well. According to initial information, an unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted and destroyed by the air defense of the international anti-ISIS coalition.
