On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, mass rallies were held in numerous cities across Rojava. In Hesekê, Qamişlo, Tirbespiyê, Dirbêsiyê, Til Temir, Amûdê, Dêrik and other locations, demonstrators called for the constitutional recognition of the Kurdish language in Syria and for the guaranteed right to education in the mother tongue.

The marches were predominantly organized by educational institutions of the Autonomous Administration. Teachers, students, and representatives of civil society organizations participated in demonstrations in large numbers. Banners bearing slogans such as “Our language is our identity” and “Education in the mother tongue is our legitimate fundamental right” were prominently displayed.

In the statements, it was emphasized that Kurdish must not be limited to symbolic recognition or to a few hours of instruction. The language must be enshrined as an official language in a future Syrian constitution. Although a formal step has been taken through a decree, this is not sufficient to permanently safeguard linguistic rights, according to demonstrators.

Several speakers pointed out that the recognition of linguistic diversity is a central prerequisite for the democratic reconstruction of Syria. They said that the protection of the mother tongue is inseparably linked to cultural identity and social participation.
The demonstrations concluded with joint statements and a renewed commitment to continue advocating for the institutional and constitutional protection of the Kurdish language.
