There is no information about at least three Kurdish citizens the Iranian authorities have arrested in connection with the recent protests in Kamyaran, Esfarayen and Ilam, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported.
Milad Ebrahimi, a 30-year-old from Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province, was injured on 8 January 2026 after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces opened fire during protests in the city, striking him in the lower back with live ammunition.
He was transferred to medical centres in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, where he underwent surgery, and was recovering at home.
Despite ongoing complications and the need for further hospitalisation due to infection, he was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents on 1 February.
He was subsequently transferred to the Ministry’s detention facility in Sanandaj, where he was denied access to medical care. No information has yet been obtained about his condition.
His brother, Hamed Ebrahimi, was also detained after protesting against the arrest. He was released six days later on bail set at 10 billion rials.
Separately, an informed source in Esfarayen, North Khorasan Province, informed the Kurdistan Human Rights Network that Ali Babri, aged 20, was arrested on 12 January when security forces raided his family home without presenting a warrant.
“Since his arrest, he has been denied access to a lawyer and family visits. During a brief phone call, he reported being tortured in an attempt to force him to confess,” the source said.
They also added that a video of Babri’s forced confession was later broadcast by state media, identifying him as the “killer of a martyred security defender in Esfarayen”.
The broadcast of the footage has intensified concerns about his safety and fate.
Another source in Ilam informed KHRN that Reza Khassi, a retired teacher and civil rights activist from Malekshahi, was arrested on 7 February after presenting himself at the Ministry of Intelligence office in Ilam.
In the weeks prior to his arrest, he had been repeatedly threatened and summoned to the same office by security agents. No information has been obtained regarding his fate since his latest detention.
Since the recent protests began, more than 2,000 Kurdish citizens have been arrested in cities across Iran. The fate and whereabouts of most of those detained remain unknown.
