Pencwênî: The resistance in Rojava has ensured Kurdish national unity

Kurdish politician Muhammed Emin Pencwênî spoke to ANF about the resistance in Rojava, the causes and consequences of the recent developments, the support given to Rojava by the four parts of Kurdistan, and prospects for a solution.

Regarding the reasons behind the attacks against Rojava, Pencwênî stated: “The first reason is linked to the international conspiracy. The current international policy pursued by the United States seeks to strengthen a radical Sunni centralized state under al-Sharaa’s leadership in order to curb the influence of Iran-aligned hegemonic forces in the region.”

‘Attacks led Kurds around the world to take to the streets’

Emphasizing that the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and the Autonomous Administration must be better prepared for the possibility of the return of Arab tribes, Pencwênî remarked that Turkey remains in constant contact with al-Sharaa with the aim of weakening and liquidating the SDF and the Autonomous Administration.

Referring to the massacres against Kurds in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods of Aleppo, as well as in areas under SDF control, Muhammed Emin Pencwênî said: “Despite the resistance, Kurds were subjected to greater massacres in these two neighborhoods than the Druze and Alawites. The HTS–ISIS factions, using tanks, artillery and drones, and supported by the Turkish state, carried out genocidal attacks against countless Kurds. We witnessed the bodies of martyred women fighters being thrown from rooftops. However, this led Kurds around the world to take to the streets and contributed to the formation of global public opinion. This, in turn, produced an outcome contrary to the expectations of the al-Sharaa regime and Turkey.”

The people sent a message to politicians: unite

Drawing attention to the Kurdish unity that emerged following the attacks on Rojava, Muhammed Emin Pencwênî continued: “This unity thwarted the international conspiracy aimed at eliminating the achievements of the Kurdish people in Rojava. Particularly in Southern Kurdistan and in other parts of Kurdistan, the people took to the streets and delivered a clear message: ‘We, as a people, are united; you, as political parties and factions, must also unite for Kurdish national interests.’

In these demonstrations, we saw how this crisis further strengthened the national spirit, unity, and the people’s love for Kurdistan, sending an explicit message to both the public and political forces. Never before in Kurdish history has such a powerful message of unity—‘This revolution must not be destroyed’—been expressed so strongly. This is a major achievement of Rojava. The political consciousness of the Kurds has changed and reached a high level. The Kurdish people taking to the streets drew the attention of global public opinion and contributed to the mobilization of aid for Rojava.

This situation prompted the United States to reconsider its policy and to bring the Kurdish Protection Act before Congress for debate. If adopted, this law could become a cornerstone of Kurdish independence. Another positive outcome of this crisis has been the strengthening of Kurdish enthusiasm and national unity.

‘Parties and political actors must reassess themselves and revise their strategies’

For this reason, parties and political actors must reassess themselves and revise their strategies. We must achieve our national goals through political and civil struggle and liberate our lands from occupiers. The reality of contemporary world politics is that a people seeking freedom must be united and capable of influencing the approach of global powers toward their cause of freedom. Therefore, our future efforts must be grounded on this basis.

We must be able to reach international institutions such as the European Union, as well as the British Parliament and the U.S. Congress. The support of a single parliamentarian or member of Congress can have a significant impact on securing the rights of our people.”

‘The Kurdish people must remain united and continue their political struggle’

Pencwênî stated that Turkey and Iran will fragment in the coming years and will not be able to prevent it, adding that all peoples living in both states are demanding their rights. Referring to the ongoing resolution process in Turkey, he said that Turkey has so far failed to take any serious steps to resolve the Kurdish issue, which is why the process has encountered obstacles. He concluded: “The Kurdish people must remain united and continue their political struggle. Through a common demand and call, they support the political forces in the North and the South that have crossed borders to stand with Rojava. At this stage, it is of great importance for us to establish a Kurdish political-diplomatic network within the decision-making centers of Western and Arab countries.”
