ISIS detainees transferred to Iraq confess to their crimes

Saad Maan, head of the Security Media Cell affiliated with the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, shared information regarding the investigations launched into ISIS members who have been transferred from Syria to Iraq recently.

Maan stated that the initial testimonies of the ISIS members revealed their involvement in numerous crimes. Accordingly, they confessed to acts of genocide against the Yazidis and to using chemical weapons while occupying certain areas.

He added that a comprehensive investigation is being conducted against the ISIS detainees in line with judicial procedures, and that detailed examinations are being carried out on those found to have been involved in crimes.

The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council had previously announced that the preliminary investigations against more than 500 ISIS members transferred from Syria had been completed.

In the past few weeks, a total of 5,704 ISIS detainees—61 of whom are Iraqi nationals—have been transferred to Iraq.
