A delegation from the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee visited the governor of Heseke Nûredîn Îsa. During the meeting on Tuesday, the situation of Serêkaniyê’s displaced residents and possible safe and appropriate ways for their return to their home areas were discussed.
The delegation stated that the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee has so far conveyed the hardships and problems faced by IDPs to numerous official institutions, both domestically and internationally.
The delegation also noted that the return of the displaced has been monitored more closely following the agreement reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian transitional government on 29 January and announced on 30 January,
The delegation emphasized the role of the governorate in the return process and called for the file to be shared with all relevant official institutions.
Governor Nûredîn Ehmed Îsa said that the return of IDPs from Serêkaniyê is one of the core issues and that efforts are underway to determine pathways and mechanisms for their safe return within the framework of the 29 January agreement.
Îsa stated that they are closely following up the issue, have conveyed the problems faced by displaced people to many relevant institutions, and remain in contact with the Damascus government regarding the return process.
The governor added that in the coming period, pathways and mechanisms for the safe and appropriate return of Serêkaniyê’s displaced residents will be clarified together with the Syrian transitional government. He added they will remain in contact with the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee.
During the meeting, the governor and the delegation agreed to meet again in the near future to continue monitoring the issue.
Governor Nûredîn Ehmed praised the work of the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee and said they would work together for the return of the displaced.
