According to AFP, Saad Maan, head of the Security Media Cell affiliated with the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, stated that so far 4,583 ISIS detainees have been transferred from Syria to Iraq, while the targeted total number is 7,000.
Officials said that these people are now being held in “secure detention centers.”
According to Iraqi security sources, the detainees include Syrians, Iraqis, Europeans, and individuals from various other countries. The Iraqi judiciary announced that legal proceedings have been initiated against those who have already been transferred.
In the past, Iraqi courts have sentenced numerous ISIS members to death or life imprisonment. Some foreign ISIS members previously brought from Syria had also been tried within this framework.
