The documentary series “From Genocide to a Free Life – The Kurdish Resurrection” is being continued with an extensive second season. Under the title “Second Birth,” the new season focuses on the years from 1984 to 1999, a period marked by intense struggles, major transformations, and strategic turning points in the history of the Kurdish movement.
Produced by the Gulistan Tara Documentation Commune, the series is based on more than eight years of research, previously unpublished archival material, and testimonies from eyewitnesses. The first season, broadcast between April and October 2025, began with the early life of Abdullah Öcalan and continued up to 15 August 1984, the start of the armed struggle of the PKK. With a total of 30 new episodes, the second season continues thematically from this historical turning point.
Among the topics addressed are the expansion of the guerrilla war; key congresses, conferences, and ideological developments within the PKK; the years of major uprisings; the role of the women’s movement in armed and civilian resistance; geopolitical dynamics and international reactions; and the gradual preparation and implementation of the international plot that culminated in Öcalan’s abduction in 1999. Developments within the Kurdish diaspora in Europe, as well as attempts at peace initiatives, are also documented.
The work presents itself not only as a historical examination but also as a political testimony of a collective process of resistance. As in the first season, the series will be broadcast on Stêrk TV (in Kurmancî, Wednesdays) and Medya Haber TV (in Turkish, Fridays). A specific broadcast start date has not yet been announced.
