Narges Mohammadi goes on hunger strike

The family of Nobel Prize–winning human rights defender Narges Mohammadi announced that she has gone on hunger strike in protest against detention, imprisonment, and injustice.

Mohammadi’s family shared a message about her situation via her social media account. It was reported that Narges Mohammadi has been on hunger strike since the beginning of February.

The activist reportedly launched the hunger strike in response to her own detention, ongoing injustices, and the arrest of protesters from the peoples of Iran.

The message also stated that the human rights defender is protesting the denial of visits with her family and opposing ongoing pressures.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi was detained on January 12, 2025, in the city of Mashhad, along with Sepideh Qoliyan, Buran Nazimi, and five other activists during a commemoration ceremony for lawyer Khosrow Ali Kurdi.
