The city of Kobanê is facing a serious shortage of medicines because of the ongoing siege by Damascus and Turkish-linked forces. Speaking to Hawar News Agency, pharmacist Aram Eli said that hospitals which previously treated around 800 patients per day are now only able to handle emergency cases due to the war.
Pointing out that Kobanê is surrounded on all four sides, Aram Eli stated that because of the siege, many medicines, especially those for children, are no longer available.
He noted that medications for conditions such as high blood pressure, cancer and diabetes have become extremely scarce, and that the dialysis unit has completely ceased to operate.
Aram Eli explained that armed groups have besieged Kobanê denying passage of basic needs and medicines.
Emphasizing that if this situation continues, Kobanê could face major humanitarian crises, Aram Eli said: “The war is ongoing. There are many wounded, we have no surgical capacity. We have a very limited number of medicines. Some of the wounded have died due to the lack of medication.”
Aram Eli called for the siege to be lifted as soon as possible.
