Aldar Xelîl, a member of the PYD co-presidency Committee, shared his assessment with ANHA regarding the developments and attacks targeting Rojava Kurdistan.
Aldar Xelîl said that an unfortunate attack on a global scale has taken place, that the United States, the Turkish state, and armed gangs are involved in an assault, and that a major plot is being carried out against the existence of Rojava.
He noted that prior to these attacks, assaults were carried out against Asayish in Sheikh Maqsoud and meetings were held in Damascus. Xelîl said: “They attacked suddenly. Without waiting, they launched a second attack against SDF forces in Deir Hafir. While SDF fighters in Deir Hafir were preparing to withdraw, they immediately began the attack. In this way, they prepared the ground for the assault.”
Xelîl explained that SDF forces were required to withdraw from Deir Hafir within 24 hours, but this did not happen as expected and the gangs launched an attack. He said: “It became clear that there was a major plan behind the SDF’s withdrawal, which is why the SDF decided to pull back. The other side supposedly accepted this, but they did not keep their word and carried out the attack. They knew they had forces backing them. This affected the morale of the fighters.”
Drawing attention to the role of the Turkish state in the attacks, Xelîl said, “The Turkish state does not want the Kurds to gain a status in this century. Despite the peace process and the steps taken, it continues to intervene in Syria. Every time negotiations took place, Turkey intervened and did not allow the formation of an alliance. The SDF believed the plan was large in scale; we did not want conflict between the components.”
We have preserved social cohesion for years
Aldar Xelîl said that the Turkish state and the United States want to divide society in line with their political interests and plans for the region. He added: “As a result of their plans, the Kurdish people were unable to secure their rights in the previous century. Now the Kurdish people have become a significant force in the region. We do not want to lose what we have gained through years of struggle and war.”
ISIS is taking control in Damascus
Addressing the threat of ISIS regaining strength, Aldar Xelîl said: “They are deceiving themselves; now they have brought ISIS to power in Damascus. They did the same thing before in Afghanistan. The ISIS threat is high and crosses the Syrian border. It is a threat to the entire world. They want to drag us into an endless war, and we must remain vigilant.”
“We are living in historic days in Kurdistan”
Welcoming the fact that the Kurdish people have risen up for Rojava Kurdistan across the four parts of Kurdistan and in Europe, Aldar Xelîl said this shows the Kurdish people’s commitment to the Rojava Revolution and marks a historic day for Kurdistan. Xelîl added: “Commitment to the Rojava Revolution is reshaping the maps of the region. Our people have risen up. Despite the situation in Rojhilat, it is extraordinary that young people are coming here. Young people from Bakur climbed over the walls. Youth from Başûr, and our people in general, are rising up for unity. This is a historic step for the Kurdish people. We previously met with all political parties and reached consensus on protecting the gains.”
“Everyone must join the resistance according to their means”
Calling on everyone to take responsibility for defense, Aldar Xelîl said: “Everyone must join the resistance according to their means. Unfortunately, attacks are being carried out. Previously, there were problems in regions outside Rojava, but now the attack is on Rojava’s soil. We are defending the borders of Rojava Kurdistan. This is a matter of existence or annihilation. Our cities must remain alive at all times during these days. We must stand by our displaced people. No one should leave the streets. We are all in danger. The actions of Kurds abroad and in other regions have put pressure on the aggressors. Efforts to find a solution are still ongoing, but the most important thing is to strengthen the defense line.”
“People resistance will prevail”
Xelîl concluded by stating that the success of the resistance will open the way for political struggle, saying, “We will fulfill our duty and lay the foundations of a democratic Syria. Once again, we salute the resistance of our people. There is no way other than resistance. We must intensify our resistance. Victory is, of course, ours.”
