Transitional government forces’ attacks on Sheikh Maqsoud leave a civilian dead, two others injured

According to the Internal Security Forces, the Kurdish-dominated neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo has been the target of multiple attacks since Monday. The Internal Security Forces announced on Tuesday that armed groups belonging to the Syrian transitional government’s Ministry of Defense had attacked the neighborhood in northern Aleppo four times in a row over the past 24 hours. One civilian was killed and two others were injured as a result of the attacks, which also caused considerable damage to private property.

“As part of our legitimate right to protect the civilian population, our forces have targeted two positions of the armed groups in response to these attacks,” the Internal Security Forces said, calling the attacks a renewed breach of the existing ceasefire.

The Internal Security Forces emphasized that such incidents violate previous agreements to protect the civilian population and ensure their safety, calling upon all parties to respect the rights of civilians and refrain from targeting residential areas.

In addition to Sheikh Maqsoud, residential areas in the town of Deir Hafer, east of Aleppo, were also attacked by groups under the control of the Syrian Ministry of Defense. The ministry had previously claimed that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had attacked a Syrian military police checkpoint. The SDF refuted the allegation as a lie and stated that Damascus had portrayed a traffic accident as an “attack” in order to construct a basis for bombing areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration. According to the SDF, no one was injured in the shelling of Deir Hafer, but property damage was caused.
