MSD and Autonomous Administration condemn mosque attack in Homs

The attack on the Imam Ali bin Abu Talib Mosque in the city of Homs was condemned by the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Both bodies stressed that the attack, in which 8 people were killed and 18 wounded, threatens not only a specific group but civil peace and social security throughout Syria.

In a statement, the Syrian Democratic Council said: “We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the treacherous terrorist attack in Homs and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. Such criminal acts do not target a single group but undermine civil peace across Syria.” Emphasizing that the attack aims to disrupt social cohesion and perpetuate violence and instability, the MSD added: “The success of the March 10 Agreement is of urgent national importance and represents a fundamental step toward eliminating the sources of terrorism and paving the way for a comprehensive political solution that meets the Syrian people’s expectations for security, stability, and justice.”

Autonomous Administration: Absence of decentralized project creates space for violence

In its statement, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria described the attack as a “brutal act,” noting that it was carried out in an environment marked by rising hate speech and the transformation of places of worship into arenas of violence.

Stressing Syria’s need for a democratic and decentralized national project based on justice, equal citizenship, and the protection of the rights of all religious and ethnic groups, the Autonomous Administration stated: “The absence of a national and democratic project creates space for extremist forces, while the existence and implementation of such a project is the only preventive path against those seeking to undermine Syria’s security and spill the blood of its people.”

Both statements reiterated calls for the protection of civilians and places of worship, the rejection of divisive rhetoric, and accountability for those responsible for acts of violence. The MSD and the Autonomous Administration also conveyed their condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
