European Democratic Forces Union calls on people to attend demos for release of political prisoners
The European Democratic Forces Union (ADGB) issued a written statement on the Turkish state’s systematic persecution of prisoners. Reminding that 7 prisoners lost their lives in the last month, the ADGB said that these deaths were presented to the public as suicide or due to illness by the state.
The ADGB added: “Let’s take action to be the voice of prisoners and support their struggle in the jails against the usurpation of prisoners’ rights, deportation and torture. Let’s increase solidarity for the release of ill prisoners.
The statement called on people to participate in marches and rallies to be held across Europe on Tuesday, 28 December.
The ADGB’s call said: “According to the current IHD figures, there are currently 1,605 ill people in prison of which 604 are seriously ill. Despite the reports confirming that ill prisoners cannot stay in jail, they are not released. 7 prisoners lost their lives in the last month alone. The real killer of revolutionary and patriotic prisoners such as Garibe Gezer, Vedat Erkmen and Halil Güneş is the state.”
