Young people prepare for HDP Youth Congress to be held tomorrow in Diyarbakir

The 3rd Ordinary Congress, which will be organized by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assemblies with the slogan “Now is the Time for Youth”, will be held in Diyarbakır tomorrow, Sunday. HDP co-chair Mithat Sancar will also attend the congress to be held at Kaplan City Wedding Hall. Thousands of young people from many regions are expected to come to the meeting.

Batman is one of the cities where strong participation in the congress is expected. The congress has been organising for weeks in the city, where activities were organised by HDP Youth Assembly members one month ago. Young activists visited neighbourhoods, houses and parks explaining both the policies of the government for young people and why the HDP disagrees with them.

Yakup Orak, one of the HDP Youth Assembly members, gave information about the work they carry out and said that the government is attacking young people in a variety of ways, and that assimilation, drugs and prostitution are the main things used to get into young people.

Talking about their goal of creating a defense mechanism against the youth model that the government wants to create, Orak said that they are trying to ensure organization, which is one of the first pillars of defense.

‘Our purpose is to create awareness’

Stating that the rate of the young population in Batman is quite high, Orak said: “A very dirty policy is being carried out for young people. Against these policies, we formed a resistance network. Among our priorities is that of raising awareness to counter the dirty policies of the government. A conscious youth will be able to defend himself and his environment against the dirty policies of the government. For this, we come together with young people and talk about what should be done.”

Emphasizing that they aim to carry the resistance spirit of Batman to the congress tomorrow, Orak issued a call to all young people: “We can show how the policies of the government were defeated with a strong participation in the congress. Let’s fill the hall and show the power of youth.”

Young women will

Youth Council member Sevda Adırbeli said that there is a strong and political youth in Batman. She noted that the government, seeing this, targeted the youth with a special policy put into effect especially for young women.
