Political genocide in Amed and Maraş: 19 detained

The Turkish government continues to increase the repression against the Kurdish part of the population. In Amed (tr. Diyarbakir), eighteen people were arrested in raids on Friday and taken to police headquarters. The background is said to be a preliminary investigation conducted by the Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which was already initiated last year. While a total of 22 people are said to have been put on the wanted list, more detailed information on the proceedings is not yet available due to a confidentiality order. In addition, a 24-hour ban on access to lawyers has been ordered.

In the province of Maraş, a person named Mehmet Ş. has been taken into custody during a house search in the district of Göksun. Again, the charges are not known. However, the investigation is being conducted in Muş province, and the arrested man is to be transferred to the prosecutor’s office there. It is believed that the number of arrests will continue to rise.
