A delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) held talks with the Governor of Heseke, Nûreddîn Îsa Ehmed. The meeting on Monday focused on human rights issues as well as administrative and political processes in the region.
According to the Governorate Press Office, the UN human rights delegation was led by Huma Khan, Head of the OHCHR Syria Office.
Various aspects of the human rights situation in the region were discussed during the meeting, including existing challenges and measures to overcome them. Ehmed presented his assessment of the current situation and pointed to ongoing efforts to improve conditions.
A key point of the discussions was the implementation of a project to register Kurdish citizens in order to grant them Syrian citizenship. In particular, the issue of issuing identity documents—still unresolved for many—was addressed.
In addition, the integration process in the region was on the agenda. Both sides exchanged views on its current status and on existing obstacles to its implementation.
