DEM Party calls for the establishment of an investigation commission

The Central Executive Board of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) issued a written statement regarding the armed attacks on schools in the Siverek district of Urfa (Riha) and the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş.

In the statement, the party emphasized that the attacks that occurred over the past two days are a “serious warning” and stated that the situation also carries political responsibility. The statement noted that violence is not merely an individual problem and that the language of social violence, poverty, income inequality, and current policies deepen this situation.

The statement drew attention to issues ranging from femicides and workplace deaths to peer bullying and drug use, and said that armed attacks in educational institutions point to a severe social crisis. “An educational system that cannot protect children and prevent violence is unsustainable,” it said.

The DEM Party called for the immediate establishment of a comprehensive investigation commission in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, stressing that the incidents must be investigated independently and transparently in all their aspects. The statement also emphasized the need for legal regulations against factors increasing violence among children and for those responsible to be held accountable.
