Father of attacker in Maraş school shooting is a police chief inspector

14-year-old 8th grade student Isa Aras Mersinli fired at two classrooms with five firearms he had carried in his bag at Ayser Çalık Secondary School in the Onikişubat district of Maraş before taking his own life. Nine people lost their lives and 13 were injured, six of them seriously, and are receiving treatment.

It was revealed that the attacker’s father, Uğur Mersinli, served as the Head of the Intelligence Branch of the Diyarbakır Police in 2020. Within the scope of the investigation, Mersinli has been detained and is currently a 1st Class Police Chief Inspector.

After the father, the mother of the attacker, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, who works as a teacher at Sevim Şırıkçı Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Dulkadiroğlu district, was also taken into custody.

Photos also emerged showing Mersinli visiting the then Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Nüammer Uslu and AKP’s Bağlar Mayor Hüseyin Beyoğlu in 2021.
