The Press Spokesperson of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) released an obituary for the late Bernd Ruprecht, a long-time internationalist comrade of the Kurdish freedom movement.
Expressing sadness over the death of Bernd Ruprecht last Friday (April 10th) after battling increasing health issues in recent years, KCK extended their deepest condolences to his bereaved and share in their grief.
“Bernd was an internationalist comrade who not only followed the Kurdish freedom movement for decades but also actively contributed to it. While making a significant contribution to raising awareness of the Kurdish people’s struggle beyond Kurdistan, he played a crucial role in establishing platforms dedicated to internationalist work toward a more democratic and free world,” the statement on Wednesday said.
KCK pointed out that: “Our internationalist comrade Bernd dedicated his efforts particularly to the fields of media and publishing and was known as the ‘editor of the movement’s German-language publications,’ thereby contributing to a fundamental tradition of the socialist struggle. The legacy he leaves behind joins that of respected internationalist friends of the Kurdish freedom movement such as Uta Schneiderbanger, Robert and Beate Jarowoy, and Ellen Stêrk. We are grateful for their struggles and contributions. They are contemporary expressions of the internationalist character that the freedom movement has possessed since its very beginning, a tradition that was created by pioneers like Haki Karer and Kemal Pir.”
The statement concluded: “We are deeply grateful for the contribution Bernd made throughout his life. Once again, we extend our condolences to the bereaved and the German people. We will keep Bernd’s memory alive and continue his struggle.”
