DEM Party: Anfal campaign is the name of a major crime against humanity

The DEM Party Peoples and Beliefs Commission issued a statement on the anniversary of the Anfal genocide campaign carried out by the Saddam regime in Iraq.

In its written statement on Tuesday, the DEM Party said: “The Anfal Massacre, which began on April 14, 1988, has been etched into memory as one of the most severe phases of a systematic policy of annihilation against the Kurdish people. This process, in which thousands of people lost their lives, villages were destroyed, and identity and existence were targeted, is the name of a major crime against humanity.”

The statement continued: “Not forgetting this pain is not only about remembering the past; it is also about raising our voice against the policies of denial and erasure that still continue today in different forms.

We reaffirm our commitment to building a future in which peoples and beliefs live equally, freely, and with dignity, and we commemorate with respect those who lost their lives in the Anfal Massacre.”
