DEM Party issues 11 decisions for May Day

The circular issued by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) stated that May Day is being marked at a time when imperialist aggression, wars, the ecological crisis, and economic exploitation are deepening. It emphasized that the capitalist system is intensifying pressure particularly on workers, laborers, women, and young people.

The circular highlighted that conflicts in the Middle East are displacing populations and rendering labor increasingly precarious, while current policies are further worsening the living conditions of working people.

It also drew attention to low-wage policies, rising living costs, and the housing crisis, noting that millions of people are struggling to make ends meet. Tax injustice, the obstruction of trade union rights, and bans on strikes were among the issues criticized in the statement.

The declaration pointed out that wealth is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a limited segment of society and stressed that the right of workers to organize is being effectively restricted.

Labor cannot be free without peace

The circular referred to Abdullah Öcalan’s call for “Peace and a Democratic Society,” emphasizing that the struggle for labor, equality, and freedom must be addressed together with peace and democracy.

The statement underlined the assessment that “Labor cannot be free without peace, and equality cannot be achieved without democracy,” stressing that labor against exploitation, peace against war, and democracy against oppression constitute a common struggle.

The circular noted that May Day represents an important day of gathering within this framework. It also announced that the DEM Party would begin its fieldwork for May Day preparations as of today.

The decisions adopted in the circular were listed as follows:

– All activities will be carried out under the slogan “May Day for Bread, Peace and Justice.”

– Central rallies will be organized in Diyarbakır (Amed) and Van (Wan) in Kurdistan; there will be no participation from surrounding provinces, and each province will organize its own activities with its internal capacities.

– Strong and enthusiastic rallies will be organized in cooperation with labor and democracy forces in both Western regions and Kurdistan.

– Activities will be conducted neighborhood by neighborhood, street by street, and door to door.

– Banners will be hung on provincial and district party buildings, as well as on streets, bus stops, and public squares.

– Stands will be set up in factories, Organized Industrial Zones, agricultural areas, textile workshops, construction sites, mines, tourism sectors, and marketplaces; leaflets will be distributed, and worker meetings and mobilization marches will be organized.

– Joint activities will be carried out with the Women’s Assembly to make women’s labor and domestic labor more visible.

– Special meetings will be organized with young workers, child laborers, and the unemployed.

– Solidarity will be expressed with local labor resistances and strikes.

– Connections will be established with ecological struggles, raising a voice against environmental destruction.

– Social media and press activities will be used effectively.
