Kurdish man remains forcibly disappeared 10 months after wartime arrest in Iran

Saeid Safaei, a Kurdish citizen from Bukan, has been missing for nearly 10 months after being arrested by security forces during the 12-day Iran-Israel war, the Kurdistan Human Rights (KHRN) reported.

Safaei’s family has received no information about his fate or whereabouts despite repeated attempts to establish contact with authorities.

An informed source in Bukan said: “Saeid Safaei, a tradesman from Bukan, was pursued by security forces in mid-June 2025, a few days after the start of the 12-day war, while driving his car in the Mirabad neighbourhood of the city, and was arrested after these forces opened fire and his vehicle came to a stop.”

Rumours have circulated that Safaei was wounded at the time of his arrest, though these have not been confirmed.

In the 10 months since his detention, neither the security bodies nor the judicial authorities in Bukan have provided any explanation to his family regarding his condition or whereabouts.

The continuing disappearance and the absence of any information about Safaei’s condition in recent months has deepened concerns about his fate.
