Several detained during house raids in Ağrı and Hakkari

Turkish police carried out operations in two Kurdish cities, targeting people who are alleged to have participated in celebrations marking the Kurdish New Year, Newroz, on March 21.

In Ağrı city center and affiliated districts, numerous homes were raided by the police in the early morning hours.

According to reports, 21 people were detained in the operation, allegedly over the slogans chanted and banners displayed during Newroz celebrations. Some digital materials were seized during the raids.

In Hakkari, raids were carried out on several homes last night and six young people were detained. The detainees are accused of “making terrorist propaganda” during Newroz celebrations. They were taken to the Provincial Police Department.

On the other hand, five young people who had been detained during house raids in Çukurca and Yüksekova districts of Hakkari were released after giving their statements.
