The guerrilla forces of the Kurdish freedom movement celebrated Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday in the mountains of Kurdistan with a ceremony. Despite ongoing rain, numerous fighters participated in the event at a location in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
As part of the celebrations, the significance of the day was emphasized. Sîdar Heştanîn, commander of the Free Women’s Troops, YJA Star, stated in a speech that Öcalan’s birthday is not understood merely as a personal date, but as a reference point for the freedom struggle of the Kurdish movement, and especially of women.
The program was accompanied by cultural contributions, including theater, music, poetry, and collective dances. At the end, the participants planted trees – a symbolic practice associated with Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday. They reaffirmed their determination to continue the struggle until his physical freedom is achieved.
