As military tensions are increasing in Iran and Rojhelat, human rights groups are warning about a very serious situation for Kurdish political prisoners in Iran. There are strong fears that executions may happen very quickly and even secretly.
According to the latest reports until 2 April 2026, at least 7 Kurdish political prisoners are in danger of being executed soon. Their death sentences have already been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Prisoners at imminent risk of execution have been named as follows:
Pakhshan Azizi, a civil rights activist from Mahabad, accused of “baghi” (armed opposition), is currently in Evin prison.
-Hatam Ozdemir, a Kurdish citizen from Turkey, is held in Urmia prison.
-Yousef Ahmadi from Baneh, accused of “baghi”, in Sanandaj prison.
-Mihrab Abdollahzadeh, arrested during the 2022 protests, is accused of “moharebeh”, in Urmia prison.
-Raouf Sheikh-Maroufi and Mohammad Faraji, both from Bukan, were accused of “efsad fel arz.”
-Naser Bakrzadeh, being held in Urmia on security-related charges.
Human rights organizations say that because communication in prisons is limited or cut off, there is a real risk that these executions could happen without notice.
Prisoners at risk of renewed death sentences
There are 6 other prisoners whose situation is very worrying. Their death sentences were canceled before by the Supreme Court, but now their cases are being reviewed again, and they may receive death sentences again.
These prisoners have been named as follows:
-Warisha Moradi (Jwana), women’s rights activist
-Ali (Soran) Ghasemi
-Pejman Soltani
-Kaveh Salehi
-Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri
-Javanmard Mamkhosravi
All of them were arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests in 2022. Human rights sources say many of these prisoners were under pressure and even tortured to give forced confessions, which makes the trials very unfair.
Activists warn that the current war situation can be used as a cover to carry out executions quickly and quietly. They are asking the international community to act fast, stop the executions, and make sure prisoners can contact their families and lawyers. They also say that according to international law, the government is responsible for the lives of prisoners in all conditions, and any sudden executions can have very serious consequences.
