The General Command of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) issued a written statement announcing the identity of one of their fighters, Dilvîn Hiso, who was martyred in Deir ez-Zor in January.
The statement on Wednesday reads:
“Our comrade Dilvîn Hiso was known in the struggle as Nûdem Ararat. She was born into a patriotic family in the resistance city of Kobane. With the July 19 resistance, Kobane’s gains grew. From her childhood, she learned the meaning of defending honor and homeland.
On her journey from Kobanê to Deir ez-Zor, Nûdem went to the most difficult fronts with great faith and determination. She knew that Kobanê’s freedom was linked to the freedom of Deir ez-Zor and the entire region. She was not only a fighter; she was a representative of the free women’s line, a militant of the cause of humanity, and one of the founders of a new life. With her smiling face and strong belief, she held a place in the hearts of all her comrades.
Martyr Nûdem always walked toward success with hope and high energy. She embodied the philosophy of free life in her personality. Her labor and struggle will remain an immortal legacy in our history. Our comrade Nûdem was known for her dedication to human values and the freedom of Kurdistan. Every moment of her life, she fought against all darkness, contributing to the construction of a new life by courageously facing death. Through her effort, sacrifice, and sincerity, she earned a permanent place in the hearts of all her comrades.
When reactionary and occupying forces tried to take back our lands, Nûdem Ararat resisted all attacks in Deir ez-Zor. With unmatched sacrifice, she defended human values until her last breath and reached the rank of martyrdom as a result of great resistance.
Our promise is to realize her dreams. Comrade Nûdem’s martyrdom is both a duty and a reason to advance the struggle for us. Kobanê’s bright daughter today lives among the flowers in every inch of Deir ez-Zor soil. She left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten or lost. We offer our condolences first to her valued family, the people of Kobane, and all those fighting for freedom. We promise that we will carry the flag raised by our comrade Nûdem in Deir ez-Zor to victory across the country.”
