Kavêz Mela Perwêz: The future of the region is in the interest of the Kurdish people

At a time when the Middle East is going through an intense period of war and chaos, and when the conflict between Iran and the US–Israel alliance has reached a new stage, the impact of these developments on the peoples of the region has become increasingly debated. Kavêz Mela Perwêz, one of the well-known political observers and journalists from Kirkuk, evaluated the current situation and possible political developments in an interview with Firat News Agency (ANF).

‘An opportunity has emerged for the freedom of Eastern Kurdistan’

Referring to the effects of the war in the region on the Kurds, Perwêz stated that the current situation presents a contradictory picture. “Today the region is in the midst of a very heavy war. This war is both an opportunity and a major danger, especially for the Kurds. One of the regimes occupying Kurdistan is currently in a difficult position against the US and Israel. This has created an opportunity for the freedom of Eastern Kurdistan,” he said.

Perwêz also issued warnings regarding US policies: “Trump is not reliable. If he withdraws from the war, the Kurds may suffer in the fire of this conflict. Therefore, the Kurds must have clear goals and possess a strategy to achieve their legitimate rights.”

Stating that the Kurdish people and the administration of the Kurdistan Region should not remain neutral, Perwêz called for support for the Kurds in Eastern Kurdistan, saying: “Perhaps such an opportunity will not arise again for the next 47 years. The Kurds must unite and gain a strong position on the ground.”

‘Kurds must rely on their own strength’

Evaluating possible Iranian attacks on Kurdish regions, Perwêz said that, under current conditions, the Kurds have no achievements to lose. “In Eastern Kurdistan the Kurds have not gained anything from the regime that they should fear losing. The Kurdish people should not abandon their struggle even without the support of major powers. We have previous experience with the US, therefore we should not trust it,” he said.

Perwêz stressed that the solution lies in relying on Kurdish strength: “We must rely on our own people and our national power. Today the Kurds are strong and have the power to liberate their lands in Eastern Kurdistan.”

‘Time for unity’

Touching on the discussions about unity among Kurdish political forces, Perwêz said that fragmented political approaches harm the Kurdish people. “Any kind of unity is good for the Kurds. Fragmented politics has harmed our people both in the South and in other regions. Multiparty politics does not always mean democracy,” he said.

He also referred to the Newroz period, noting that this year expectations had emerged regarding the liberation of Eastern Kurdistan but no concrete development had taken place, emphasizing the need for united action.

‘The future of the region will be shaped without the Islamic Republic’

Speaking about the future of the region, Perwêz stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot continue to exist in its current form. “The future of this region will be shaped without the Islamic Republic of Iran. Even if this regime remains, it will weaken and collapse completely within a few years,” he said.

Comparing this process with Iraq’s experience in 1991, Perwêz said: “The Baath regime weakened and collapsed a few years later. The Iranian regime is not desired either by the world or by its own people. The end of this regime would reduce interventions in the region, and this would benefit the Kurds.”

‘Turkey is worried about Kurdish gains’

Perwêz also evaluated Turkey’s approach to developments in the region, stating that Ankara’s attitude is against Kurdish achievements. “Whenever Turkey and Erdoğan are disturbed by something, it is usually in favor of the Kurds. Because Turkey’s strategy is based on preventing the Kurds from achieving their rights,” he said.

He noted that Turkey is uneasy about Iran weakening and said this is linked to concerns about Kurds gaining rights in Eastern Kurdistan.

‘Kurds have goodwill’

Perwêz also touched on the Peace and Democratic Society process, stating that the Kurds have demonstrated clear goodwill in this process. “Under the leadership of Leader Apo, the Peace and Democratic Society process was entered into seriously, but the Turkish state stalled the process,” he said.

He warned that if Turkey does not take concrete steps, it may face new risks, adding that this situation could create new opportunities for the Kurds.

‘All Kurds are ready to support Eaastern Kurdistan’

At the end of his assessment, Perwêz expressed his expectations regarding developments in Eastern Kurdistan and said that Kurdish forces should act without waiting for external support. He stated that under current conditions, the Iranian regime could be forced to grant the Kurds their rights and added that Kurds in Southern Kurdistan could also provide strong support.

Perwêz said that in the event of a possible uprising, the support of the people would be strong and stressed that the Kurds in Eastern Kurdistan are not satisfied with the pressure of the Iranian regime. He stated that a process similar to the experience in Southern Kurdistan could occur, that the international community might recognize this process, and that all Kurds are ready to support Eastern Kurdistan.
