The Council of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) announced its support for the “National Unity Project,” which was launched on March 18 by more than 200 people from Southern Kurdistan.
The PJAK Council’s statement included the following remarks: “We support the ‘National Unity Project’ initiated for the unity of the Kurdish people. First of all, we greet and appreciate the ‘National Unity Project’ initiative launched for Kurdish national unity. This initiative was launched at a time when our region is facing historic and sensitive conditions. For this reason, we see this initiative as a wise effort to unite the scattered energies and capacities of Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan, and we consider it an important strategic step.
The painful experience in the history of our people has proven that whenever Kurds are fragmented and divided during any process of resolution, we directly face the weakening and destruction of our own political and social positions. This fragmentation has always given our enemies the opportunity to easily implement their policies and conspiracies against the Kurds. Today as well, the conflicts and disagreements between regional powers and regimes affect the entire region and are directly connected to the future of the Kurdish people. The lack of unity and fragmentation could be the greatest danger for Kurdistan.”
The statement added: “On the other hand, our recent history of struggle has also shown that only unity can change the balance. The unity of the Kurdish people became a vivid example of a national will that transcended all borders during the condemnation of the international conspiracy and attempt at annihilation against Leader Apo and the Kurdish people in 1999. Likewise, the unity of our forces against the attacks of the ISIS gangs formed a steel shield in defending the lands of Kurdistan. In the most recent experience, the unparalleled stance and attitude of the Kurds in defending Rojava demonstrated our national unity to the world under the slogan ‘Yek e Yek e Yek e, Gelê Kurd Yek e’ (One is one is one, the Kurdish people are one), proving that national unity alone can guarantee the prevention of occupying conspiracies.
As a political, national, and social actor with a historical background in democratic struggle and in defending the freedom and legitimate rights of our people, we believe that all political forces, organizations, and national figures must ultimately unite in accordance with the interests of our people. This cannot be achieved without a common voice and common action. Therefore, we find this project—born from the conscience of society and reflecting the real wishes and demands of the Kurdish people—necessary and appropriate. In this context, we consider the support of political parties for this initiative as a national duty and a moral response to the will of the people.
Based on this understanding and historical necessity, we declare that we are ready to contribute to the success of this project and offer our support. We believe that this unity should form a solid foundation for preparing a comprehensive national conference. At this conference, everyone will come together to form a common strategy and develop a national program; this program will protect the highest interests of our people and ensure a progressive future for our nation by guaranteeing all rights and democratic positions.”
