A Newroz reception held at the Senedd Cymru building was organized by the Kurdish All Wales Association, and was attended by many politicians and representatives of the Kurdish community.
At the reception, which was also supported by figures such as Darren Millar and Heledd Fychan, the Kurdish people’s cultural struggle and efforts to preserve their identity were highlighted.
In the speeches delivered during the event, the Kurdish community’s determined stance in preserving its language, culture, and values in Wales was emphasized. It was stated that the organized structure of the Kurdish people strengthens cultural resistance wherever they live.
As part of the reception, children took the stage and performed the song “Yma o Hyd.”
This piece, performed by Dafydd Iwan and telling the story of the historical existence and resistance of the Welsh people, added a special meaning to the event.
The fact that Kurdish children sang this song was seen as a powerful message symbolizing the shared cultural resistance and struggle for identity between the two peoples.
Throughout the program, it was emphasized that Newroz is not only a celebration but also a symbol of freedom, resistance, and rebirth.
The event ended with messages of friendship and solidarity, and participants concluded the celebration with the words “Newroz Pîroz Be.”
