David Lammy: I am proud to represent the Kurds

UK Justice Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy sent a Newroz message to the Newroz reception organized by the Centre for Kurdish Affairs.

Lammy, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tottenham, a district with a large Kurdish population, conveyed his warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Newroz, saying, “I wish you all a happy new year.”

Expressing great pride in the passion, effort, and creativity behind the Newroz celebrations, Lammy said: “Newroz offers a very valuable opportunity for us to come together as a community and to celebrate your important place within society. I congratulate you all and want to emphasize that we will continue our efforts to ensure this tradition endures.”

Stating that Newroz symbolizes hope and the arrival of spring, Lammy added:

“It also represents the richness of multiculturalism that we are privileged to experience together. Preserving these traditions and keeping them alive together with the Kurdish diaspora across the country is of great importance. As your Member of Parliament, it has always been a great source of pride for me to represent one of the largest Kurdish communities in the United Kingdom.”

Saying in Kurdish “Newroz Piroz Be,” Lammy concluded: “I congratulate the Kurds on Newroz 2026. As you welcome the new year, I wish you to leave the old year behind and look toward a brighter future with hope.”
