The co-presidency of the KCK Executive Council issued a statement to thank all those who attended this year’s Newroz celebration.
The statement said: “Newroz, celebrated for thousands of years by the peoples of the Middle East—especially the Kurds—as the ‘Festival of Rebirth, Resistance, and Spring,’ was celebrated this year with great enthusiasm throughout all of Kurdistan, in many cities across Turkey, and abroad, as well as in the Medya Defense Zones under the slogan ‘Freedom for Rêber Apo, Kurdish Democratic Union,’ and continues to be celebrated. This Newroz has already been etched into memory for its immense enthusiasm, the massive participation, and the historic messages it conveyed.”
The statement added: “Newroz, which symbolizes the day the Kurdish people and the peoples of the Middle East were liberated from oppression, has been revitalized by converging with the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Process’ initiated by Rêber Apo [Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan], which aims for the peoples to live together on an equal and free basis. With this awareness, during this year’s Newroz, the Kurdish people, numbering in the tens of millions, have embraced the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Process’ with the utmost strength, demonstrating just how united they stand around Rêber Apo, the architect of the process. Our people have clearly expressed their demand for Rêber Apo’s physical freedom with the greatest intensity in all squares where Newroz was celebrated.
Women, the youth, the Kurdish people as a whole, and the freedom guerrilla of Kurdistan—who have led the way from March 8 to Newroz—loudly expressed their demand for Rêber Apo to physically be among them now and that they will no longer tolerate his continued detention under harsh conditions, thereby demonstrating once again to everyone the deep and strong bond they share with Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan].”
The statement continued: “Our people, enlightened by Rêber Apo’s guidance, have once again demonstrated their readiness for Kurdish democratic unity and have called on Kurdish political organizations to immediately establish their democratic unity against the dangers.
Our people, who received the manifesto of the democratic communal society this Newroz, welcomed it with great enthusiasm and demonstrated their readiness to undertake the tasks of building a democratic society.
The freedom guerrilla of Kurdistan, celebrating Newroz with great enthusiasm, joy, and determination in the Medya Defense Zones, have demonstrated that they are ready and determined to successfully fulfill every task required of them in this process.”
The statement said: “It has become clear that this year’s Newroz has given tremendous momentum to the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Process,’ served as a warning to those who miscalculated, and provided great strength to those fighting for freedom and democracy.
On this occasion, as we extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the magnificent celebration of this year’s Newroz at this level, we once again celebrate the Newroz of Rêber Apo, our heroic martyrs, all women, the youth, our people, and all the peoples.
Bijî Newroz!”
