Celebrated this year under the slogan “Newroza Azadî û Yekîtiya Demokratîk” [Newroz of Freedom and Democracy], the Newroz rally in Amed (tr: Diyarbakır) witnessed historic moments.
The celebrations, which began in the early morning hours with thousands rushing to the Newroz Park area, lasted for hours.
Citizens, entering the area in colorful traditional clothes and chanting slogans, danced for hours accompanied by songs.
The crowd, carrying photos of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, doubled their enthusiasm as the Newroz fire was lit.
The celebration, attended by hundreds of thousands, revealed many vivid, dynamic, and striking scenes.
Despite the rain, the crowd did not lose its enthusiasm and remained in the area until the end of the event, which concluded with the “Freedom Dance.”
