Newroz celebrations begin in Amed

Celebrations held under the slogan “Newroz of Freedom and Democracy / Newroza Azadî û Yekîtiya Demokratîk” have started in Amed. Tens of thousands who began arriving early in the morning continue entering the area, which is gradually filling up.

The crowd attending the celebrations is dancing to Kurdish Newroz songs coming from the stage, accompanied by drums and zurna. The strong participation of young people and women stands out, and some young participants were seen forming a tower with flags of Abdullah Öcalan.

While entries to the area continued, a kemençe group that took the stage accompanied the crowd for a long time. Thousands continued dancing to the melodies of the kemençe.

Despite the rainy weather, the enthusiasm did not diminish, and chants of “Bijî Serok Apo” were frequently heard. The program began after welcome messages and “Happy Newroz” greetings delivered in different languages.

Afterward, the people in the area together celebrated Abdullah Öcalan’s Newroz.

During the celebrations, those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy were also commemorated, represented by Salih Muslim, one of the pioneers of the Rojava revolution who passed away on March 11. Following a moment of silence, chants of “Şehîd namirin” (“Martyrs are immortal”) rose from the crowd.
