PJAK: Newroz will be a freedom celebration for Iran’s peoples

The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) issued a written statement on the occasion of the upcoming Newroz holiday.

In the statement, PJAK celebrated the Newroz of all oppressed peoples, especially those struggling for freedom and liberation in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhilat), saying, “We see this holiday as the ‘Festival of Freedom and Democratic Nation Unity.’”

PJAK stated: “We are welcoming this year’s Newroz under difficult conditions. This year’s Newroz will be a Newroz of freedom for all peoples of Iran, and the Kurds will lead the struggle for freedom and democracy. With this strong will, we are welcoming Newroz amid a major process of change and revolution in Iran. This Newroz is one that will determine the fate of the free life of Kurds and all peoples. This Newroz, at a time when all peoples of Iran are in the midst of a global and regional war, is not merely a celebration but a Newroz of struggle. This Newroz is the creator of a mass force of freedom that possesses all the emotion, strength and capacity of a rebellion that will determine the fate of nations for centuries.”

It was stated that the war between Iran, the United States and Israel has spread to many countries in the region, and that all forces involved in wars in the Middle East over the past century have turned Kurdistan into a battlefield. The statement said, “The transformation of Kurdistan into a battlefield has deprived our people of a free life. Yet we have continued to welcome every Newroz with pure dreams filled with freedom. The war currently being waged has deeply shaken the systems of power and capital in the region. In this process, our society is also expected to struggle, because the path to freedom passes through struggle. Over the past century, through the struggle of our people, we have moved from a Newroz celebrated with pure dreams of freedom toward a final Newroz in which a democratic destiny will be determined. This Newroz is the spirit of freedom and the hope of struggle for the peoples of Iran. In this Newroz, the people can determine the destiny of their free life themselves. All peoples and nations of Iran must struggle for freedom, and the only way to free themselves from the disasters of power systems and destructive wars is to complete this path. Undoubtedly, if the ruling system in Iran had acted in accordance with the philosophy of this thousand-year-old festival and respected the will of the people, it would have turned toward democracy instead of war.”

It was also emphasized that in a period when Iran is prepared to resort to war and destruction to keep Kurds under pressure, a people who dream of freedom during Newroz must elevate their struggle for democracy to its highest level by taking the will of the masses as their foundation.

The statement continued: “Our people in Eastern Kurdistan and our freedom movement are ready to realize this revolution and historic transformation together with the peoples of Iran. If peoples and nations do not intervene in this major transformation in Iran today, the systems of power will once again determine their own fate, and this opportunity will be completely lost. Therefore, the role of the peoples of Iran in this year’s Newroz of freedom is historic and decisive.”

The statement emphasized that women must be the pioneers of the revolution: “The freedom of women, society and the environment makes this year’s Newroz unique and historic. We stand on the threshold of a revolution in which women are the main actors who will determine the free future.”

PJAK concluded its statement by celebrating the Newroz of all nations, the families of martyrs, Abdullah Öcalan and the self-sacrificing guerrilla forces, stated: “The unity of the Kurdish people and political forces is the condition for entering the field of struggle and the fundamental measure for breaking the chains of centuries-long oppression. Our philosophy is ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî,’ and on this path, the freedom of the Kurdish people, Abdullah Öcalan, all oppressed peoples and women are interconnected. This year’s Newroz grounds will be spaces for creating a lasting will of liberation from oppression, assimilation, annihilation, war and destruction. The path to freedom is irreversible, and Iran will never return to its former oppressive state.”
