Iran continues attacks on the camps of Rojhilat parties in Southern Kurdistan

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) again targeted locations in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq). The affected sites were camps of Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) parties, where civilian facilities and family members of Peshmerga fighters are also present.

On Thursday, the Sûrdaş camp near Dukan, close to Sulaymaniyah, was targeted in a drone attack. According to available information, a total of eight drones carried out strikes consecutively at the site, where families of Komala party fighters live, and fires broke out in several areas. There were initially no reports on the extent of the damage or injuries. However, no fatalities were reported.

Repeated attacks on Kurdish structures

On Wednesday, the Koye region was repeatedly attacked by Iranian forces. The Kurdistan Democratic Party–Iran (PDK-I) stated that the Iranian regime had fired multiple rockets at residential buildings. “Three ballistic missiles struck several civilian houses,” the organization said in a statement in the evening. Accordingly, this was the ninth attack within the previous day. It remains unknown whether anyone was harmed.

The attacks come against the backdrop of the war between the United States-Israel and Iran. While Tehran responds with drone and missile strikes against Israel and US targets in the Middle East, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) is also being deliberately targeted. Organizations from Eastern Kurdistan that maintain bases and refugee camps in the KRI are particularly affected by the attacks that repeatedly hit civilian structures where family members live. Observers see this as a dual strategy: on the one hand, the regime is reacting to the regional war; on the other, it is using the situation to act against Kurdish opposition.
