YRK guerrillas celebrate Newroz in the mountains of Kurdistan

Guerrillas of the East Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) lit fires in the mountains of Kurdistan to welcome Newroz, Kurdish New Year, on March 21.

During the celebration, martyrs of the freedom struggle were commemorated and messages were delivered to the Kurdish people. The guerrillas stated that the Kurdish people’s struggle has entered a phase of resolution and emphasized the necessity of securing the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in Imralı Island Prison in Turkey since 1999.

The guerrillas expressed that the Kurdish people have gained extensive experience and achievements through their long-standing struggle. They noted that despite harsh conditions, Kurds have not bowed to occupiers and have continued their struggle with great resistance.

The guerrillas reiterated their promise that, like their people, they will not submit to hardships and that they will make this year’s Newroz the Newroz of Öcalan’s freedom.
