HPG and YJA-Star guerrillas spoke to ANF and shared their feelings regarding Newroz, Kurdish New Year on March 21. Emphasizing the historical and social significance of Newroz, the guerrillas stressed that their struggle will continue with determination.
‘We will never allow conspiratorial forces to achieve their goals’
Ferman Penaber, one of the HPG guerrillas, congratulated Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, his fallen comrades, and all oppressed peoples on Newroz, and said: “Newroz is a great legacy of resistance and struggle for us. This resistance has continued from Kawa the Blacksmith to Mazlum Doğan and will continue until victory. Our Leader initiated the Peace and Democratic Society Process on February 27, 2025. In line with it, our movement has taken major steps. For the first time in a long while, we heard our Leader’s voice, saw his image, and received his message.
Seeing the image of our Leader for the first time in 27 years was an incredible feeling for us. We experienced very different emotions. We drew great strength from our Leader; seeing him increased our power to expand the struggle for freedom with greater morale and motivation and to carry the existing resistance to victory with even stronger determination.
Last year’s Newroz created a great impact with the Peace and Democratic Society Process initiated by our Leader. We welcomed Newroz in that way; and we are committed to bringing the initiated process to victory this Newroz. We will continue our struggle in this spirit. We will never allow conspiratorial forces to achieve their goals. We wish happy Newroz to Leader Öcalan, to the revolutionary martyrs who made these days possible, to all peoples of the world, and to our comrades.”
‘Newroz is a call for resistance, hope for freedom’
Zeryan Ronas, one of the YJA-Star guerrillas, expressed her feelings about Newroz with the following words: “First of all, we wish happy Newroz to Leader Öcalan, to our revolutionary martyrs, to our patriotic people, and to all friends in the struggle. I hope this Newroz will be a Newroz of democracy and freedom. This year, Newroz has a very different meaning for us. The Peace and Democratic Society Process initiated by our Leader has a deep significance for us guerrillas.
As HPG and YJA-Star guerrillas, we want to give a strong response to our Leader’s call for peace and democracy. For us, Newroz is a call for resistance, hope for freedom, and a dignified life. With the arrival of spring and the spirit of Newroz, we promise that we will strongly embrace the process initiated by our Leader and enhance the struggle. With this morale and motivation, we will further intensify our struggle for the physical freedom of our Leader.
Seeing the video of our Leader was a great source of excitement and enthusiasm for us. Our hope to see and live with our Leader has grown even stronger. We firmly believe that we will physically see our Leader. We are intensifying this struggle with each passing day and we will realize our dream.”
