MSD: A democratic political process must be launched

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) issued a statement on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Syrian revolution.

The MSD stated that this revolution was a historic step that expressed the will of Syrians to establish a state based on freedom, dignity, and justice.

The statement recalled that Syrian citizens took to the streets in different cities and towns to demand their fundamental rights and emphasized that the country’s future must be built on the basis of the people’s will, the rule of law, and respect for pluralism.

The MSD said that the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime ended a long period of repression and political exclusion, opening a new chapter in Syria’s history. It continued: “These changes have created a historic opportunity to rebuild the state on solid foundations, end violence, and open the door to a new national era.”

The MSD called for the launch of a genuine democratic political process based on a comprehensive national dialogue that guarantees the participation of all Syrian citizens without discrimination. The statement also said that a new social contract must be prepared to ensure the establishment of a democratic and civilian state.

It also highlighted the importance of restructuring state institutions on professional and national foundations, strengthening the rule of law, and adopting democratic models of governance.

The MSD stressed that, in order to achieve lasting stability in Syria, the consequences of years of conflict must be addressed. It stated that a solution would be possible through clarifying the fate of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons and through efforts that strengthen social reconciliation.

The MSD also said that transitional justice is a fundamental condition for building lasting peace.

At the end of the statement, the MSD said it is ready to work with Syrian national forces to create a democratic political path aimed at establishing a pluralistic and civilian state that preserves Syria’s unity and sovereignty.

The MSD also saluted the Syrian people for their resistance and sacrifices.
