One of the first Newroz celebrations in Germany this year was held in Munich. The event, organized by the Democratic Kurdish Community Assembly, took place in the city center at the square in front of Munich City Hall.
The celebrations began with the lighting of the Newroz fire. The fire was lit jointly by Kristan Spies, the mother of Azad Şergeş (Thomas J. Spies), who fell as a martyr in Xakurkê on 15 June 2023, and Nezaket Doğan, the sister of Mazlum Doğan.
The event, which began with a moment of silence, was attended by many people from Kurdistan and their friends. Kurdish representatives who spoke during the program began their speeches by commemorating Salih Muslim, a member of the PYD Presidential Council, who passed away earlier this week in Hewlêr (Erbil).
Speakers emphasized the importance of national unity in all four parts of Kurdistan and support for the resistance in Rojava. They stressed that Kurds must continue their struggle on the basis of unity.
Artists including Hozan Cömert, Hozan Sosin, Denge Mazlum, Azadi, Firoz Mirani, and Koma Erbane Med performed at the celebration. Throughout the event, slogans such as “Bijî Serok Apo,” “Bijî Newroz,” and “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” were frequently chanted.
The Newroz celebration continued until late at night with music, resistance songs, and traditional dances.
