A statement was issued on the 10th anniversary of the curfews imposed on 13 March 2016 in Yüksekova (Gever), a district of Hakkari (Colemêrg), following the declarations of self-governance. The curfews lasted 79 days.
Many people attended the statement made in front of the Zağros Business Center. Speaking there, Onur Düşünmez, an MP from Hakkari, said that despite the 10 years that have passed, the people of Yüksekova continue their resistance.
Düşünmez pointed to the large-scale destruction that took place in the district in 2016 and said: “We are still standing here. The people of Yüksekova are here. Those who wanted to empty our cities and those who carried out destruction over them should know this: we will never forget these things. We will continue the struggle until freedom is achieved and we will expand our resistance.”
Düşünmez added that the Kurdish people have paid a heavy price but have not abandoned their resistance and said: “Those who want to eliminate the Kurds should look at the resistance of the Kurdish people. They should see how heavy the price has been. But the Kurdish people did not bow down, they did not kneel. We are ready for honorable peace. Let the whole world know that we have rights and we will defend them.”
