Groups affiliated with the interim Damascus government launched attacks on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) and Ashrafiyah (Eşrefiyê) on January 6, 2026. These attacks later spread across all regions of North and East Syria. In response to the attacks, the Autonomous Administration declared general mobilization to defend the region.
During this mobilization, young people, women, the elderly and even children from Rojava joined the streets and the frontlines, standing alongside the fighters.
Hozan Ebdullah was among the young people who responded to the call for mobilization and went to defend his homeland. While he was in Deir Hafer (Dêr Hafir), Hozan was captured by groups affiliated with the interim government.
The family of Hozan Ebdullah spoke to ANF and called for the return of Hozan and his comrades.
Hozan’s mother, Selîme Mihemed, said her son was captured in Deir Hafer (Dêr Hafir). Selîme said: “When the attacks against Rojava intensified and mobilization was declared, Hozan told me, ‘Prepare my bag, I will also join the mobilization.’ The day he left home to go to Deir Hafer was Thursday. He spoke with us on Friday, but on Saturday we could no longer hear from him. Hozan was captured on January 17.”
Hozan’s mother said that she wants her son and all the other captives to be released and return home. She said: “I want Hozan and all his friends to return home. We are in the month of fasting and the holiday is approaching. My wish is that my son comes back before the holiday, so that our holiday will become two holidays.”
Hozan’s father, Feysel Tewfiq Ebdullah, also said: “When mobilization was declared, Hozan left home and went to Deir Hafer. The first time he went, he transported those who had been wounded in the resistance in Sheikh Maqsoud. When he went for the second time, he spoke with us for two days. On the third day we lost contact with him and could no longer reach him. Our only wish is that these captives return to their families.”
Hozan’s father concluded his words as follows: “A country cannot exist without its youth. Rojava is the country of all of us and we would do everything for it. Hozan left home with great joy. If he has become a martyr, may it be blessed a thousand times. But if he is a captive, he should be released and return to his family.”
