Abdullah Öcalan sent a message to the funeral ceremony held for Salih Muslim in Qamishlo. Muslim passed away at the age of 75 in Hewlêr (Erbil), where he was receiving treatment last Wednesday.
The message reads as follows:
“As comrade Salih Müslim passes from this world
I received the news of the passing of dear comrade Salih Müslim in the evening hours. Until morning, I tried to commemorate him and his struggle. Undoubtedly, for his children, his relatives, and all his comrades, he is now an immortal. He has lived as required for his people and his welat (homeland) and has become immortalized.
He was a true patriot of the Syrian lands. He knew how to be fully Kurdish with the Kurds; an indispensable friend with the Arabs; a true brother with the Turks. He made establishing a complete humanist familiarity with every people, Assyrian, Armenian, Circassian, religion, and sect, an integral part of his life.
He was a cornerstone of Rojava that I always trusted, and he will remain so. I see him as the twin brother of Sırrı Süreyya, whom we lost during the Peace and Democratic Society Process. On this basis, he will remain an unextinguished star of both our struggle and our peace.
The martyrdom of Salih Müslim is not a loss. On the contrary, as a true force, he will continue forever to strengthen all our people, all peoples, his friends, and his comrades.
